This announcement is about our upcoming Annual General Meeting and Annual Business Challenge competition. Please read this throughout to find more info about MACFIS's two most anticipated events!

The Malaysian Accounting & Finance Society (UK) www.macfis.com is a society with an objective to represent and support all business related students in particular, and all Malaysian students in general, in UK universities.

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING 2008
If you have not already heard about us, or you have known a bit about us, but still want to know what MACFIS can offer, we would like to cordially invite you to our AGM; 13 December 2008 (Saturday), 1.00pm – 5.00pm, Malaysia Hall London.

Having said that, we welcome nominations for the Elections for the next term (2009). Available positions are:
President, Vice President, General Secretary, Finance Officer, Web & IT Director, Corporate Relations Director, Communications Director and Membership Director.

MACFIS would like to announce that our annual Business Challenge has been refined this year – it is now MACFIS DRAGONS' DEN!

How the competition works?
Participants will have to form a group ('company') majoring in any fields. The company can be formed either individually or maximum of 3. The company would have to think of one new product/service that they want to introduce to the market.

The FIRST TASK would be to submit a TWO-PAGE EXECUTIVE SUMMARY of your proposed product/service. There will only be SIX finalists that will be invited to Final Round in London on 13 December 2008, in collaboration with MACFIS AGM. Therefore you will have to present your ideas creatively in your Executive Summary.

DEADLINE FOR EXECUTIVE SUMMARY SUBMISSION IS 11.59PM ON SUNDAY 30 NOVEMBER 2008, SUBMIT PREFERABLY IN .PDF FORMAT TO SAIFUL AT sai_sar@hotmail.com.

Please include your universities and contact details in your submission. Results on who proceed to Finals will be sent latest by 10pm on 3 December 2008.

Final Round:
Finalists will pitch their ideas to four/five 'Dragons' (selected reputable judges from various professional organisations). In short, if they Dragon/s decided to invest in your products, they will state how much they think the value of the product being the major production of the company. The team that earns the most support from the potential investors wins!

CASH PRIZES WORTH GBP350 TO BE WON THIS YEAR.

Nottingham Malaysian Games 2008

The 2008 games will hopefully be the biggest and most sucessful games ever and after months of planning and preparation we wholeheartedly welcome our fellow Malaysian Society guests.

The Nottingham Malaysian Games were introduced by the Nottingham Malaysian Society Comittee 1985/6. The Malaysian Games 2008/9 will be the 23rd set of games.

The games will be held within the grounds of University Park Nottingham. The University Park grounds are 35 acres of meadow, parklands and garden and were given to the University in 1921 by Sir Jesse Boot (1st Baron Trent) the great Nottingham Benefactor and owner of Boots Chemists.

UKEC Annual General Meeting

Assalamualaikum and Greetings all,

I hope everyone had a good summer. I am sure that by now many of you are back in the UK or Ireland for the new term.

I hereby announce and call for the UKEC Annual General Meeting and Elections for term of 2008/2009 to be organized and held as follows:

Date: Saturday 25th October 2008 and Sunday 26th October 2008
Time: 9am - 5pm Saturday to 10am - 4pm Sunday
Dress Code: Formal
Venue: Malaysia Hall London, Malaysian Student Department


1. Accommodation ( for outside London)
Accomodations are available at Malaysia Hall London for the UKEC constituents (i.e. delegates from member societies/organisations) from outside London for a limited number of rooms.

It will be on a first come first serve basis and for undergraduate students only. This still means that you have to reserve your rooms yourselves at www.masduke.net, after which you should email General Secretary Tai Zee Kin at zeekin@ukeconline.com. In the event that we can no longer pay for accommodation expenses or that Malaysia Hall is fully booked, please e-mail Zee Kin for suggestions of cheap hotels or alternative arrangements that may be found.

In all instances, we require your FULL NAME, UNIVERSITY, YEAR, COURSE, EMAIL and MOBILE NUMBER.



2. Food
Food will be provided during the AGM


3. Delegates rights.
Each constituent member of UKEC is allowed to send 2 voting delegates to the AGM. There is no limit for non voting delegates from any constituent member but all delegates must reply with the following details before 17th of October.

4. Travel Arrangements
Each constituent member of UKEC is allowed to send 2 PAID delegates to the AGM. But in order to qualify for reimbursement, please send accurate travel budget to our Director of Communication Farhana at farhanaroslan@hotmail.com BEFORE 17th of October 2008.

Those who request for reimbursement AFTER the above date will NOT be reimbursed.
All train tickets will be paid ONLY on the basis of a Young Persons Railway Card travel price, ie 1/3 off. Those travelling on normal price ( or first class!!) will only be reimbursed on the Young Persons Railway Card price.All bus tickets will be paid on the basis of Students Discount tickets, or Megabus prices.All constituent members are encouraged to request from its own Treasurer reimbursement, so as to ease the financial liability of UKEC.


5. Reports
All constituent members are ENCOURAGED to send an end of the year report, preferably the same report presented at its own AGM. This report can be emailed beforehand, or brought as printed or softcopy material to the AGM. All UKEC national executives MUST send a full report as executive members. All the above report will be compiled and archived by the UKEC for the perusal of interested parties.


6. Motions and constitutional Amendment
All constituent members are ENCOURAGED to submit a motion to be debated at the AGM. A motion can be regarding any issues pertaining to students interest or even national issues.A constitutional amendment can be done to amend or omit any part of the UKEC constitution, which can be requested if youre interested ( I was planning to attach it but the file would be too big) .If you do not know how to write a motion or constitutional amendment, you can email what type of issue you want to highlight and UKEC will help you in drafting the motion.

ED10 International Student Fees

Congress notes:
That International Students in Irish Third Level Institutions pay higher tuition fees than their EU counterparts.

Congress believes:
That this is an injustice and causes extra hardship to International Students.

Congress mandates the Equality Officer:
To lobby for an end to the overcharging of International Students.


7. Elections
UKEC will be holding election for the following positions below. Nominations will be open from now until midnight of Friday 17th of October. Please email Deputy Chairman Shahril Hamdan at shahril@ukeconline.com stating your intention to run for any post.

We would like to especially URGE ex Malaysian Society executives and if possible, ex Malaysian Society PRESIDENTS to run for UKEC positions.
Electable positions open for nominations are as follows.

1. Chairman
* CEO of the committee and organisation. Acts as a team leader.
* Delegates of jobs to the Exco, ITTF, Careers and others.
* Responsible for all actions of the Excos and other UKEC teams.
* Answers directly to the Supreme Council.
* Protect the interest of UKEC.

2. Deputy Chairman
* Assists the Chairman in the day-to-day running of UKEC.
* Head of the Supreme Council, thus the need to establish a good relationship with the Presidents and good knowledge of the constitution is essential.
* Chairs the Supreme Council meeting and general meetings.
* Answers directly to the UKEC Regional Chairpersons.


3. General Secretary
* Acts as the secretary of the societies.
* Preparation of minutes, paperwork and official emails.
* Dispersal of information to member societies.
* A good filing system need to be developed for past, current and future materials.
* Updating the database and the website.

4. National Treasurer
* Balancing the books.
* Need to have a good rapport with the Trustees.
* Work with project manager in doing the paperwork and getting the funds.
* Fund raising for UKEC and the projects.

5. 3 Executive Members
* Will act as project director,
* Help out in the running of UKEC.
* Project based (Projek Amanat Negara, Careers Fair) and will be appointed by the discretion of national executives

6. Webmaster / IT Director
* Will manage the website www.ukeconline.com

7. Regional chairman
* A regional chairman will be appointed from all 12 regions. Refer to attachment on the regions and universities.
