ANNUAL INITIATIVES
EXECUTIVE COUNCILLOR RECRUITMENT DRIVE
One of the most significant annual initiatives, the EC Recruitment Drive is dedicated to scouting and attracting the next generation of student leaders to join UKEC’s Executive Council. This provides a platform for ambitious and passionate individuals from Malaysian student communities across the UK and Ireland to step up and take leadership roles.
Through a structured selection process, we aim to identify those who embody UKEC’s values and are ready to drive impactful initiatives under its Five Pillars.
ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING (AGM)
A cornerstone event in UKEC’s governance, the Annual General Meeting (AGM) serves as a crucial platform for the Supreme Council (SC) and Malaysian Societies (MSocs) to engage in structured discussions about the council’s performance over the past fiscal year.
A key feature of the AGM is the constitutional review, where proposed amendments are debated and voted upon, ensuring that the organisation continues to evolve and adapt to new challenges. Most importantly, this meeting marks a formal transition of leadership as the outgoing Executive Committee passes the torch to the incoming Shadow Council, ensuring continuity in UKEC’s mission and vision.
ORDINARY GENERAL MEETING (OGM)
Taking place midway through the tenure, the Ordinary General Meeting (OGM) serves as an essential check-in point to assess UKEC’s progress in implementing its initiatives and addressing challenges. Similarly to the AGM, the OGM provides a structured forum for Supreme Council members to discuss constitutional amendments and governance matters that shape the council’s decision-making.
Additionally, the OGM plays a crucial role in leadership succession, as it serves as the election period for the next Shadow Council candidates.
YEAR-LONG INITIATIVES
WEBSITE REVAMP
Recognising the importance of a strong digital presence, the Website Revamp initiative aims to transform UKEC’s online platforms into a more streamlined and user-friendly experience. This effort focuses on improving the UI/UX design to ensure seamless navigation and accessibility for students, partners, and stakeholders. Additionally, the revamp marks a strategic shift in how UKEC disseminates information—moving away from an overreliance on social media platforms and leveraging the website as a comprehensive information hub for the Malaysian student community. This initiative, jointly overseen by SnS and the UKEConnect Office, is a step toward a more cohesive and structured communication strategy for UKEC.
MSOC SPOTLIGHT SERIES
MSoc Spotlight Series aims to highlight and amplify the presence of smaller Malaysian Societies (MSocs) across the UK and Ireland. Recognising that many MSocs may lack the visibility and engagement that larger societies enjoy, this initiative seeks to provide them with a dedicated platform to showcase their events, culture, and contributions.
Through engaging bite-sized content, including video features on UKEC’s TikTok and Instagram Reels, we aim to celebrate the unique identities of these societies and encourage greater collaboration among the Malaysian student community.
THE MALAYSIAN YEARBOOK
A significant project aimed at commemorating and preserving the collective experiences of Malaysian students in the UK and Eire, the Malaysian Yearbook serves as a lasting testament to their journey and achievements. This initiative compiles highlights from flagship MSoc events such as MNight and MGames, alongside personal reflections from student leaders, committee members, and society representatives.
Featuring a collection of photos, special entries, and heartfelt messages from Supreme Council members, the Yearbook captures the vibrancy and spirit of the Malaysian student community.
Beyond simply documenting achievements, this initiative serves as a source of inspiration for future generations, showcasing the resilience, creativity, and impact of Malaysian students abroad.
