Did you know that it is highly encouraged for us Malaysian students to be registered with Education Malaysia (EM)? Registering with EM is equivalent to registering with the High Commission/Embassy of Malaysia in the UK and Eire. This will help ease the communication and the dissemination of information between the local authorities and our Malaysian embassy in case of any emergencies. Being in EM’s database will enable EM to easily find you and immediately provide help and support accordingly. If you are not registered with EM, it will only delay the whole process as EM will have to find and gather your information first before they can attend to your needs.

Besides that, registering with EM is also useful even when it is not a matter of life or death. If you ever find yourself in any unfortunate circumstances, such as getting robbed or mugged, you can always turn to EM for support as it acts as your home away from home. Even if it is something that seems trivial such as figuring out how to recover your lost BRP or passport, EM will be able to guide you through the process. Hence in whatever situation you are in, kindly refer to the guidelines which has been prepared by UKEC at our website: https://www.ukeconline.com/students/support/ . With that, it is clear that you should register with EM now! It will take less than 5 minutes to do so, and you can register online as well at https://educationmalaysia.co.uk/index.php/registration.

EM’s next point of contact to reach you will be through the Malaysian Societies under UKEC, which is one of the reasons why it is important for you to register with your Malaysian Society (MSoc)! Being thousands of miles away from home, it is easy to feel homesick and sometimes feel out of place as you step into a new unfamiliar environment, and as well as being exposed to all different kinds of cultures can sometimes overwhelm you. Yes, change can sometimes feel refreshing and it makes life a bit more exciting. However, without a doubt, university life will become more demanding of you in many aspects. Hence, it would be more comforting for you to be surrounded by familiar people from our beloved homeland, Malaysia, when you are facing various hardships. By just being able to chat casually, not being cautious to not slip the word “lah” in your conversations, being able to relate in so many things at so many levels – sometimes we all need a bit of familiarity in this depressing English weather, which is why MSocs are there for you! So what are you waiting for? Register with your MSoc now so you can join the fun in all kinds of events from ice skating socials to Malaysia Nights to festive celebrations such as Deepavali and Chinese New Year! You can refer to the list below to find your university’s MSoc.

Moreover, it is important for us, students in the UK and Ireland to be updated with what is happening back home in Malaysia. Therefore, by registering with EM and being in your MSoc will guarantee a constant supply of updates so you will constantly be notified of any Malaysian events happening around you. Don’t forget to register with EM and your MSocs now to enjoy these benefits!
